Orfeo Carletti
Violin maker
(1906 – 1940)
Carlo's second son (1906-1940) trained alongside Natale and, in 1928, the two brothers opened a joint workshop in Bologna near the old Fiorini premises on Via Pepoli; Natale returned to Pieve di Cento not long after, leaving Orfeo to run it alone until it closed around 1934-35. His personally-made instruments are rare -- much of his output is hard to distinguish from Natale's and may carry his brother's own labels -- but what survives shows him as perhaps the most skilled scroll-carver in the family. He died young, at thirty-six, cutting short what might have been a distinguished independent career.
