William Nisbet


Violin maker
(1828 – 1903)

William Nisbet was a self-taught craftsman who made approximately 120 violins. His early work concentrated on Maggini models, later shifting to an Amati-derived pattern. He used broad purfling and applied spirit varnish in various shades. In 1885, he received a bronze medal at the Edinburgh Exhibition. His name was inscribed internally.
