Karl Niedt
(1872 – 1950)
Karl Niedt was a pupil of E. F. Reichel in Markneukirchen starting in 1887. He established himself independently in Würzburg from 1897. A prolific maker, his early work included unrefined copies of typical Tyrolean and Italian models, but he gradually refined his production to create Vuillaume-like copies of Stradivari and Guarneri, featuring shaded varnish. He was highly regarded as a repairer and restorer.
