Tomaso Carcassi
Violin maker
(fl. 1745 – 1786)
Most of Tomaso Carcassi’s instruments were produced in collaboration with his older brother and business partner Lorenzo using a joint Carcassi Brothers label, but he did occasionally work independently. Autonomous works by both brothers share the Stainer influence present in their joint efforts, but Tomaso’s models tend to be somewhat smaller than those of his brother, and of the two he was the more meticulous craftsman.
