Mathias Neuner IV
Violin maker
(b. c. 1795)
Mathias Neuner spent some time working throughout Europe before returning to Mittenwald to form a partnership with Cantius Hornsteiner, who had been active there since 1755. From around 1800, the company Neuner & Hornsteiner became an important part of the violin making trade. Instruments were generally of very good quality but inconsistent. Some of the finest work was attributed to the hand of Anton Seitz.
