Fritz Mönnig worked for A. Hollinger in Kiel, G. Winterling in Hamburg, and Hammig in Berlin as a pupil of M. Schmidt. He established himself independently in Markneukirchen in 1912. In 1913, he became a Master of the luthiers guild. He made fine copies of classical models and was a highly regarded repairer and restorer.
