Carl Mächler I
(b. 1902)
Carl Mächler trained at Mittenwald under Kochendörfer. He was employed by Winterling in Hamburg, Kreiling in Munich, Niedt in Würzburg, Held in Cologne, Otto in Dusseldorf, Kessler in Mannheim, and later with Wahl in Karlsruhe and Zust in Zurich. He established himself independently in Zurich from 1928 and was later assisted by his two sons, Carl jr. and Georg. An award for a Guadagnini copy was given to him at Cremona in 1949. He was a noted restorer and repairer. His work was branded with his monogram.
