Jean-Baptiste Chipot-Vuillaume was a pupil of Derazey and later worked in the Colin-Mezin shop, where he was recognized for his fine workmanship. In 1870, he married Stella Vuillaume, the daughter of a shoemaker, who was not related to the dealer J.B. Vuillaume, despite the later exploitation of the Vuillaume name.
