Maurice Fauconier
Violin maker
(b. 1904)
Maurice Fauconier was a violin and bow maker from a family of wind instrument makers. He studied under Georges Apparut in Mirecourt. Fauconier worked in Paris, Luby, and Milan. In 1927, he returned to Ghent and established a violin making department within his father's wind instrument shop, employing several craftsmen. He received a diploma of 'artist violin maker and craftsman' in Paris in 1928. The shop was destroyed in 1945. He created copies of classical models as well as a personal design, using fine materials and good oil varnish of golden-brown color. His ornamented 'modele de luxe' featured a sculpted head and corners, along with several grades of student instruments made by workmen in the shop. Bows were branded: M. FAUCONIER.
