Signing his own daughter's 1784 baptismal certificate with a cross rather than his name is the clearest evidence of a Ghent-based maker's illiteracy — a real, closely-documented figure the source calls "Renaudin," working from a shop near the Waalpoort-Brugge across exactly the years (1781–83) the Makers.sql itinerary has Leopold Renaudin in that same city, with a repair from 1781 also attributed to him.
