Johann Diehl
(1775 – 1850)
Johann Diehl was the eldest son of Martin Diehl (I). His work was mostly inspired by Stradivari, although it exhibited some crude details. He sometimes created scrolls with an extended last turn. The varnish used was a well-coloured soft spirit. His cellos were built on a very distinctive model that was vaguely Venetian, featuring large lower corners. Johann Diehl was a Lauten- and Geigenmacher in Mainz.
