Paul Ernst (Pál Ernö) Pilat was the son and pupil of Paul Pilat (I). He emigrated to the USA in 1921, initially working for Frederick Markert in New York before establishing his own workshop in 1932. In 1952, he relocated to Los Angeles. Pilat created personal models and produced close copies of master instruments, including several violas by Gasparo da Salò, completing over 350 instruments throughout his career. Manuscript labels:
