Antonio Pelizon I
Violin maker
(1763 – 1850)
Antonio Pelizon was presumably the son of Francesco Pelizon. His work was impetuous and not dissimilar to Landoll Arching, being of medium height but rather box-like. The outline was quite square, featuring projecting prominent corners. He created extremely long stiff soundholes that were widely set. Broad purfling and quite clumsy mitres appeared in the deeply cut edge flute. The scroll was very broad across the eyes but neatly turned and concentric, with the second turn being quite wide. He had a deep throat to the pegbox. The varnish was mostly golden-yellow with a good but hard consistency, and some had a darker thinner red coating. The materials used were mostly plain, although some instruments featured carved lion heads replacing the scroll. He was thought to be the teacher of G. Dollenz.
