Frédéric Boyer

Frédéric Boyer trained initially as a luthier by R. & M. Millant in Paris, then from 1943 in Mirecourt under R. Jacquemin and bow maker L. Bazin. He returned to Paris in 1948 and joined C. Enel, whose widow transferred the company to him in 1960. He concentrated on making violas and provided expertise and restoration services, completing around 200 violas, as well as 50 violins and five cellos. He used the name of his half-brother Benedetti on his labels. In 1981, he was joined by his son Serge, after which instruments were labelled jointly as Frederick and Serge Boyer. He retired in 1984, leaving the business to Serge.
