Nicolas Auguste Eugène Maline
Violin maker
(1855 – c. after 1917)
Nicolas Auguste Eugène Maline was a bow maker, the son, pupil, and assistant of Nicolas Maline. He served his apprenticeship with his father and assisted him from 1870. After his father's death in 1877, he took over the family firm, running it alongside his uncle Jean Joseph and cousin Francois Alexandre, while continuing to utilize his father's brand, which included the cross of the Legion d'Honneur. His early bows closely resembled his father's and were stamped 'Maline'. From around 1890, he began to work more closely with the Bazin model. In 1906, he joined Cuniot-Hury, producing bows branded 'Pierre Maline' under the brand: PIERRE MALINE. He moved to Paris around 1917, but specific details of his death are unknown, and his own brand is rarely, if ever, encountered.
