Joseph Anton Haff established himself in Munich in 1894, later moving to Senftenau, Bodensee, and finally Stuttgart, where he worked for Fridolin Hamma. He focused on classical models, particularly those of Amati, producing accurate and finely-finished work. His designs featured well-carved and well-designed scrolls. He won several medals at exhibitions. His work made for Hamma was inscribed with: 'in München für die Firma Hamma & co gemacht'. He also had his own printed label: Hamma & Co. Saiteninstrumentenfabrik - Stuttgart.
