Alfred Coletti studied under Carl Hermann Voigt from 1892 to 1904. He gained a high reputation as a restorer and connoisseur, earning the nickname 'Viennese Stradivari. ' In 1904, he joined the firm of Hamberger and took over the workshop the following year. He became the official violin maker to the Viennese court in 1906, where he was responsible for the large collection of ancient stringed instruments. From 1929, he established himself on the Habsburgergasse. His original work was highly finished, utilizing reclaimed 16th-century timbers from local sites, and was well covered with deep orange varnish.
