Pauli Merling
Violin maker
(1894 – 1976)
He studied with Bojesen-Petersen and then moved to Germany to study with Rudolf Heckel in Dresden. Worked in Oslo with Rummelhof Hansen and then with Emil Hjorth & Sons in Copenhagen. In 1919 he established his own workshop in Copenhagen.
Early Merling instruments show the influence of his masters, with both German and French inspiration. From 1927 the German maker Karl Heinel made most of his instruments in the white, which Merling then varnished.
