Heyndrick Willems II
Violin maker
(c. 1715 – 1745)
Heyndrick Willems was presumed to be the son of Hedrick Willems (I). The Musical Instruments Museum in Brussels housed a cello from 1717 featuring back and ribs made of walnut, along with two violins dated 1743. A pochette and a viol, currently strung as a lira viol with a new neck, back of walnut, and ribs of maple, were also plausibly attributed to him. He worked closely on violins and violas based on a sophisticated Amati model, with heads that were finely carved and well proportioned. The varnish sometimes exhibited a strong red tint and was of very good Italianate quality.
