Ludwig Otto
Violin maker
(1821 – 1887)
Ludwig Otto was the son and pupil of Georg August Gottfried Otto. He worked in Erfurt starting in 1850, in Cologne from 1855, and in St. Petersburg from 1871. His model was derived from Stradivari. He produced fine and consistent professional work with red-brown oil varnish. At the London Exhibition in 1862, he presented three violins, a viola, a cello, and a double-bass.
