Violin maker

Henry Meissner was brought up in Germany but returned to the USA in 1925. He traveled with an evangelical choir. His first violin was made in Oklahoma City. He settled in California, residing in Redlands around 1950 and then in Carpinteria from 1975. His son Henry (II) assisted him. A total of 188 instruments were completed, which included 25 violas and two cellos. He used classical Italian violin models, as well as Tertis and Brescian model violas. He also created a personal design for a violin with substantially reduced upper bouts and sometimes utilized pre-cut necks. His varnish was made from terpenes and resin.
