Franciszek Mardula

Franciszek Mardula was a self-taught maker, active from 1927. He made violins while being held as a prisoner of war in Germany from 1939 to 1945. After the war, he became a prolific maker in Zakopane, producing over 300 instruments and two bows. His creations included violins, violas, cellos, and double basses, primarily based on classical Stradivari and Amati models. He exhibited in Warsaw in 1955 and received a silver medal at Ascoli Piceno in 1959. In 1959, he founded the violin making school in Nowy Targ, which significantly contributed to the revival of Polish violin making during this period.
