Andreas Carl Leeb
(1784 – 1805)
Andreas Carl Leeb was the first maker in Vienna to adopt the Stradivari model, preceding Geissenhof. Initially, he used dark varnish that later turned black; during his Viennese period, this varnish gradually became lighter, achieving a fine clear golden-brown color. Some of his instruments were based on an Amatisé model. The scrolls were generally somewhat crude. Occasionally, he branded the back with `A. L. '. A printed label read: Andreas Carolus Leeb / fecit Viennae 1813 No..
