Andreas Kempter
Violin maker
(1701 – 1786)
Andreas Kempter's name appeared in the records of Füssen, where he was likely apprenticed. He was active in Dillingen starting in 1725. He died in the parish of his ordained son, Denklingen. His model, derived from Stainer, featured a high arch and broad proportions that were handled quite elegantly. The varnish was of good quality in various shades. He made cellos with relatively flatter arches, as well as tenor violas. Viola d'amores from his work were found in the Heyer collection and the Museum of Hamburg, showcasing finely carved lion heads. The Heyer instrument was dated 1746 and inscribed internally.
