Nicolas Vuillaume III
Violin maker
(1800 – 1872)
Nicolas Vuillaume was the third son of Claude-François Vuillaume (IV). He worked for his brother Jean-Baptiste from 1832 to 1842, then returned to Mirecourt to produce student-grade instruments known as 'Stentor. ' These instruments were primarily made by A. Darte and his wife, and they are recognized by the shield mark featuring the name 'Stentor' on the back of the scroll. The name was subsequently sold to Gautrot and continues to be a successful company providing student instruments. Original instruments by N. Vuillaume were branded internally.
