Georg Ullmann
Violin maker
(1879 – 1946)
Georg Ullmann trained in Markneukirchen with E. R. Schmidt. He worked for Kurth and Mickel in Berlin, Dvorak in Prague, and Degani in Venice. From 1903, he established himself independently in Milan and worked for the conservatoire there while maintaining his influence with the Dvorak company. He moved to Turin in 1919 and finally to Zurich in 1921. His models were derived from Stradivari. He demonstrated fine craftsmanship and used a pale golden-brown to red varnish that was slightly opaque.
