Paolo Antonio Testore
Violin maker
(c. 1700 – 1767)
Paolo Antonio Testore was the son, pupil, and successor of Carlo Giuseppe Testore. He was the least skilled maker in the family, often producing coarse instruments characterized by high arches and shortcuts, such as scratched and inked purfling, an unfluted pegbox, and poor-quality wood. His varnish typically had a dull brown color, though it occasionally appeared lighter with some glow. The scrolls displayed a careless craftsmanship, resembling a plastic quality. While his work varied in quality, with some instruments being uninspired, he did receive assistance from C. F. Landolphi at some point.
