Jerome Bonaparte Squier

Jerome Bonaparte Squier was a farmer and shoemaker. He was an active violin maker in Lewiston and established his work in Boston in 1881. From 1892, he had a particular interest in varnish research, which led to the creation of his own amber-oil varnish available in a full range of colors. He made 600 instruments based on classical Italian models, showcasing excellent workmanship and materials. Many of his instruments were assigned names, including a celebrated set of twelve titled after the Apostles. He was one of the most influential American makers of his period.
