Nicolas Simoutre

Nicolas Simoutre apprenticed to Lupot in Paris. He established himself in Mirecourt in 1817. He was a prolific maker until 1838, when he ceased working on bowed instruments and focused solely on guitars. Around 1844, he moved to Metz. He is credited with the creation of approximately 1, 000 violins and cellos between 1817 and 1838. His work featured good Cremonese models, characterized by accurate craftsmanship but thin spirit varnish. Réparé par Simoutre à Metz en 1862.
