Giacomo Rivolta
Violin maker
(1770 – 1844)
Giacomo Rivolta made some of the finest violas and cellos in the Italian tradition, and yet next to nothing concrete is known about his working life. He worked in Milan and possibly Mantua in the early 19th century, and also made guitars. Evidence from the Carteggio of Count Cozio di Salabue indicates that the count held him in high esteem and around 1816 loaned him violas and cellos by Stradivari, which Rivolta studied and emulated with great success.
