Johann Joseph Elsler
Violin maker
(c. 1690 – 1747)
Johann Joseph Elsler created a Stainer model featuring a high boxy arch and a deep edge flute. The soundholes were very open-cut and quite close-set, utilizing the Amatise body form. He crafted a neatly cut scroll with an exaggeratedly broad first turn. The varnish was a thin, intensely coloured dark red-brown. He also made viola d'amores. Johann Joseph Eisler worked as a Lauten und Geigenmacher in Meyntz in 1717 and later in 1746 at the Churfurstl Mayntzischer Hof.
