Dmitri Didchenko
Violin maker
(1893 – 1971)
Dmitri Didchenko was a refugee of the Russian Revolution. He worked in Poznan and Warsaw, Poland, starting in 1917. He similarly fled to the USA in 1940 due to the outbreak of the Second World War. He established himself in New York, but in 1965, he was arrested and imprisoned for the murder of his wife. His work as a violin maker was fine and distinguished prior to that. He created a Stradivari-derived model featuring very thick red varnish, which was generally branded and rubber-stamped internally.
