Emil Pliverics
Violin maker
(1878 – 1964)
Emil Pliverics worked as a pupil of A. Setzer in Budapest. From 1895 to 1906, he was employed by O. Möckel in Berlin, Zfist in Zurich, A. Van Der Meer in Amsterdam, G. Fiorini in Munich, Foetisch in Lausanne, and finally Kessler in Berlin. He established himself independently in Berlin, acquiring the business of J. Homsteiner in 1909. He served as President of the German Corporation of Luthiers from 1926 to 1930. His son Rudolf joined him in 1924, and thereafter the business was known as Pliverics and Sohn. He was appointed to restore and conserve the State collection of instruments in Berlin. He produced fine work on classical Cremonese models with high-quality varnish.
