Sergio Peresson
Violin maker
(1913 – 1991)
Sergio Peresson was active from 1943. He moved to Caracas, Venezuela in 1947 and was employed as a repairer for the Venezuelan Symphony Orchestra. In 1963, he relocated to Philadelphia to work for William Moennig until 1971. He established himself independently in Haddonfield starting in 1971. A prolific maker, his early work featured fine finishes, utilizing Guarneri models and shaded spirit varnish. He gained a high reputation among players for his copies of master instruments, particularly cellos, leveraging his experience in Moennig's shop. His clients included cellists du Pre and Rostropovich. Later, he relied somewhat on pre-fabricated parts, and the general standard of his work became less consistent.
