Jean-Jacques Millant
Bow maker
(1928 – 1998)
Jean-Jacques Millant was a bow maker and the son of Roger Millant. He apprenticed with Morizot Freres in Mirecourt from 1946 to 1948 before returning to his father's workshop in Paris. He established his own business in 1951 at 3 rue de Constantinople, later moving to rue du Mont-Dore and finally to 19 rue de Bucarest. In 1970, he was recognized as 'one of the best craftsmen in France' and was certainly among the leading French archetiers of the 20th century. He developed an innovative, though ultimately unsuccessful, design for a two-part frog. His fine work was derived from the Peccatte model and featured round sticks. He branded his work as: J-JACQUES MILLANT A PARIS.
