Plinio Michetti
Violin maker
(1891 – 1991)
Plinio Michetti was a pupil of E. Peluzzi in Genoa and possibly acquainted with Candi and De Barbieri. He established himself in Turin around 1920, initially working for Morutto, a dealer in musical instruments, before opening his own business on Corso Lecce. Michetti was largely self-taught and influenced by Oddone and Fagnola, using classical Cremonese models in his work. He completed over 300 violins, which were well-finished with fine yellow and golden-brown oil varnish. His work was noted for its accuracy, elegance, and good sonority, earning him medals in Turin in 1928 and in Cremona in 1949. Throughout his career, he was extraordinarily prolific and received numerous accolades for his craftsmanship.
