Michael (Mihály) Braun
(1870 – 1942)
Michael (Mihály) Braun was the son of Johann Braun. He was active in Szeged until 1895, after which he moved to Kolozsvar until 1918, when he returned to Szeged. In 1929, he retired to the suburb of Szentmihalytelek, continuing to make instruments while leaving the shop to his pupil Tibor Sagi. His work featured Stradivari and Guarneri models that were well made, though the broad purfling and heavy edgework appeared somewhat clumsy. He crafted a delicate scroll and used good materials, although the varnish was rather lifeless.
