Mathias Ignaz Brandstaetter
(c. 1791 – 1851)
Mathias Ignaz Brandstaetter created a Stradivari model characterized by well-controlled craftsmanship and finish, although the scroll appeared comparatively clumsy. He used fine materials and typically applied good varnish in a shaded gold to orange-red color. After his death, Anton Hoffmann continued the workshop, completing unfinished instruments, generally employing an inferior dull brown varnish while still using the Brandstaetter label.
