Carl (Károly) Brandl
(1821 – 1864)
Carl (Károly) Brandl studied under Tischenant and Hoffmann starting in 1835. He later worked for Gutermann and A. Hofmann in Vienna. From around 1855, he established himself in Budapest, first on Hatvani Street and later on Granatos Street. His fine workmanship featured various classical models, including a reduced Stradivari pattern, an enlarged Guarneri model, as well as copies of Amati and double-purfled Maggini. Although he crafted excessively large scrolls, they were well-carved. He used a dark red-brown varnish of good quality. In 1862, he received a diploma at the London Exhibition.
