John Macintosh
Violin maker
–
John Macintosh was a pupil and successor of Thomas Perry in Dublin. He took over the business of Perry and Wilkinson, returning to Scotland around 1839. In 1837, he published an essay on violin construction. His work was similar to Perry's, featuring painted purfling, a short stop length, and pale orange spirit varnish. He later produced more classical pieces and usually used fine materials. He branded his instruments as 'Mackintosh. '.
