Thomas James Holder
Violin maker
(b. 1874)
Thomas James Holder, son and pupil of Thomas Jacques Holder, was born in Cardiff and established his workshop at 16 place du Havre, Paris in 1913. He gained respect as a copyist and restorer, particularly known for his ingenious replicas of Italian instruments, especially those by Gagliano and Guadagnini. His brand appeared internally at the center of the back as 'T. J. Holder', and he rarely labeled his instruments, opting instead for facsimiles relevant to the chosen model.
