Thomas Earle Hesketh
Violin maker
(1866 – 1945)
Thomas Earle Hesketh studied under G. A. Chanot from 1885 to 1891. He established himself independently in Manchester's Oxford Street in 1891. He was recognized as one of the better English makers of his era. His work featured fine and idiosyncratic designs based on Stradivari, Amati, and Guarneri models, as well as his own personal patterns. He used his own spirit and oil varnish, occasionally applying a shaded 'antique' finish in suitable colors. Many instruments were made for him by his employee Paul Voigt. Some instruments were branded with 'T. E. H. '. A printed label read: Thomas Earle Hesketh TEH / Manchester. Fecit 1900.
