Dario Vettori
Violin maker
(1903 – 1973)
Dario Vettori was a violinist and a member of the Benelli Quartet. He was a pupil of P. Contavalli in violin making. His early instruments featured relatively unrefined designs with deep middle bouts and heavy edges. Later, he studied the work of G. Ornati, whose influence became evident in his work after 1950. He was succeeded by his sons Carlo, born in 1940, and Paolo, born in 1945. He received medals at Pegli in 1956, 1958, and 1960, as well as in Florence, Ancona in 1957, and Cremona in 1965. His models were inspired by Stradivari and Guarneri. He used golden-yellow and red-brown varnish, primarily with local timbers. He crafted 156 violins, 37 violas, two cellos, and two quartets.
