Custode Marcucci began his career as a farmer and cooper before training at the Institute of Art in Bottajo. He established his workshop in San Agata, Ravenna, where he worked alone and became a prolific maker, credited with over 300 violins, 600 cellos, and 49 double basses. His instruments are noted for their good craftsmanship and typically feature a dark red varnish, though around 1900, he introduced a slightly lighter-toned and more transparent varnish. Marcucci utilized a wide variety of models throughout his career.
