Francois Bovis
Violin maker
(1860 – 1914)
Francois Bovis worked for Bianchi from 1874 and eventually took over the business in 1880. After his death, the business was continued by his widow and later by his son Charles. He was appointed luthier to the Monte Carlo orchestra. New instruments were made mostly on a Guarneri model, although some featured his personal design. His workmanship was generally very proficient, with a high level of finish and a good red-brown varnish. He received Diplomas at the Turin Exhibition in 1911.
