Violin maker
(1707 – 1756)
Claude Boivin established his workshop at the sign 'a la guitare royale' on rue de la Poterie, later moving to rue de Grenelle St Honore and rue Tiquetonne. He became Master of the Violin-Makers' Guild in 1752. His instruments included viols, violins, cellos, and guitars, which were found in the Mils& de la Musique in Paris and the Museum of Massachusetts. Servais played a small cello made in 1741. A flat model violin from 1735 was cited by Vannes. Some examples featured a fuller Amati-like arch and a thin red-brown varnish.
