Dale Walker Stevens

Dale Walker Stevens was a self-taught violin and bow maker. He worked for the Salt Lake City Music Company, where he finished and varnished prefabricated instruments. He established himself independently in 1959. He received awards at the Violin Society of America competitions in 1978, 1978-80, and 1982, as well as at Kassel, Germany, in 1983. His work included the 1716 Stradivari 'Messie' violin and personal models. He completed over 400 instruments using Michelman varnish and primarily prefabricated parts, with about 46 instruments made entirely by hand. He had been a bow maker since 1966, with octagonal sticks branded: DALE STEVENS.
