François Jude Gaulard
Bow maker
(1787 – 1857)
François Jude Gaulard was the son of Louis Gaulard. Early works indicated the influence of Pajeot. From 1855, he worked in Troyes alongside his son Louis Auguste. His prolific output included pernambuco, ironwood, snakewood, and other coarser imported hardwoods. His bows featured silver or gold mounts, sometimes with open frogs, and ivory frogs that had a double fluted rear face, along with a deeply incised central groove. He branded his work as `GAULARD. M', later simplifying it to `GAULARD'.
