Herman Fischer
Bow maker

Herman Fischer was originally a bow maker active from 1895. He trained with R. Fischer in Brambach and later worked for August Rau in Markneukirchen in 1898. In 1900, he moved to Amsterdam, where he was employed by Van der Meer and shifted his focus to violin making, concentrating on Cremonese models. He worked for Scheffler in Bucharest in 1905 and subsequently traveled to Cologne, Paris, London, and St. Petersburg. Fischer emigrated to America in 1910, settling in Chicago in 1914 as the principal in the repair department of Lyon & Healy. He established his own workshop at 1166 Diversey Parkway in Chicago in 1917, moving to 1434 North Clark Street in 1927. His work included both violins and bows of the highest standard.
