Alberto Fernando Moglie completed his first instrument in 1908 after studying under Antonio Sgarbi from 1920 to 1907. He worked for mandolin maker Luigi Enbergher, and later for Rudolpho Fredi and Giuseppe Rossi. He also spent time in Paris working for Hippolyte Silvestre before relocating to Milan to work for Leandro Bisiach. In addition, he was appointed luthier to the Constanzi Opera House, Augusteum Symphony Orchestra, and the Conservatoire. He emigrated to the USA in 1914 to work for Rudolf Wurlitzer in Cincinnati, moving to the New York branch in 1917. He established himself independently in New York in 1917 and transferred to Washington in 1922. He finished his last instrument in 1936 but continued to work until at least 1985. From 1931, he was given responsibility for the instrument collection of the Library of Congress. Renowned as a restorer and repairer, he also made over 100 violins, six violas, and three cellos, mostly reproductions of individual classical Italian instruments.
